Building a Statewide Network for Specialty Access
Over the past two years, RAEs, community stakeholders, primary care providers and their practices, specialist reviewers, and healthcare organizations have helped grow the Colorado Medicaid eConsult Program into a statewide specialty network increasing access to specialty care for Medicaid members across Colorado communities.

Program Snapshot
Thank you to those who continue to participate across the State to support the growth and expansion across adult and pediatric specialties.

EHR Integration to Support Clinical Workflows
One of the reported barriers to utilization of the Colorado Medicaid eConsult Program has been PCPs not wanting to leave their EHR to submit an eConsult. To address this, the Colorado Medicaid eConsult program worked with multiple EHR companies to explore Single Sign On (SSO) and data integrations in order to keep PCPs in their existing clinical workflows.
To date, the following EHRs have data integration, allowing completed eConsult summaries to be sent directly to the patient’s medical record, helping align eConsult with existing clinical workflows and reducing the need to access multiple systems.

- Amazing Charts
- AthenaHealth
- DrChrono
- eClinicalWorks
- Elation

Collaboration Across Colorado
This year included continued collaboration with rural partners, provider organizations, healthcare leaders, and participating practices across Colorado to better understand how eConsult can continue supporting evolving care delivery needs.
Discussions throughout the year highlighted the importance of scalable, sustainable approaches to specialty access that support providers across different care settings and communities.
The program also continued outreach and engagement efforts with participating organizations, including rural providers, RAEs, and specialty reviewers, to gather operational feedback and identify opportunities for continued improvement and collaboration.
