Colorado Rural Health Conference April 15th – 17th, 2026

Safety Net Connect (SNC) will be attending the Colorado Rural Health Conference this April, where healthcare partners from across the state will come together to discuss solutions to the unique challenges rural communities face in accessing care.

We look forward to connecting with many of you at the conference and continuing the conversation about improving specialty access for rural communities through the Colorado Medicaid eConsult Program. We will be there to answer questions, onboard, and support implementation.

The Rural Access Challenge

In many rural communities, getting a patient to a specialist can mean traveling over 100 miles and waiting months for an appointment.

The Colorado Medicaid eConsult platform helps bridge this gap.

With eConsult, providers can:

  • Send a secure clinical question to a specialist
  • Receive expert guidance in days instead of months
  • Keep more care local for their patients

What this means for patients:

  • Fewer long-distance trips
  • Faster answers
  • Care delivered locally

Rural eConsult Use Continues to Grow

Rural and CEAC (Counties with Extreme Access Considerations) practices across Colorado continue to adopt eConsult as a tool to improve access to specialty care. Did you know there are 17 rural counties and 32 CEAC counties in the state of Colorado?

Participation:

  • 44 rural & CEAC practices currently participating
  • 30% of eligible practices across the state

Breakdown:

  • 22 rural practices enrolled (of 85 eligible)
  • 22 CEAC practices enrolled (of 60 eligible)

Active Use:

  • 28 rural practices have submitted eConsults
  • Rural & CEAC practices account for 17% of all eConsults submitted
    statewide

Meet Your Specialists

Board Certified Adult and Pediatric Allergy/Immunology Specialist, Dr. Joshua Davidson, MD, MPH is one of the Specialists (Reviewers) on the Colorado
Medicaid eConsult Platform.

Dr. Davidson has 16 years of experience and is dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care. Born in New York City and raised in Southern California, Dr. Davidson earned his undergraduate degree at Brandeis University, his public health graduate degree at Yale University, and his medical degree at UCLA. After residency training in pediatrics, he completed his allergy and immunology training at National Jewish Health in Denver, Colorado. He currently practices in both community-based clinical settings and through telemedicine, helping patients of all ages manage their allergic and immunologic conditions with convenience and expertise.

Dr. Davidson shared his views with SNC about the value he finds in participating as a Specialist (Reviewer) on the Colorado Medicaid eConsult Platform:

“Participating as a specialist on the Colorado Medicaid eConsult platform has been a rewarding experience. The program creates a clinical bridge between primary care and allergists, allowing clinicians to obtain guidance for allergy and immunology questions. An eConsult can help clarify the diagnostic approach, optimize treatment, and prevent unnecessary delays in care or specialty referrals. Programs like this expand access to specialty input while supporting primary care clinicians in managing challenging cases within their own practices.”
